The new year has been good to us, we have met new people and are currently hosting long time guests in our Remote Steelhead Camp as we speak.
The end of March brought us Editor and Chief of Outdoor Canada Magazine Patrick Walsh, who fished for Steelhead via Centerpin, he came with his friend Stewart Delion, also from Ontario, who did very well.
Next on their wish list is our Fall Season for Steelhead and Mighty Silvers in October – this will be a great time for sure!
The fall time in Beautiful Northern British Columbia is absolutely breathtaking! Steelhead and Silvers have been very big, bright and healthy these past few years! What a fantastic time to book your Adventure!

Arriving in a couple days is our good friends from California who are headed into their favorite place on earth….Remote Steelhead Boot Camp!
Although we were faced with little rains and low water, we found some very nice Steelhead and Dolly’s during Stewart & Patrick’s stay.
The Weather Forecast calls for steady light rains and overcast with little winds…..Perfect Angling weather!
Until we post again ~ Tight Lines & Screaming Reels!

Guided Steelhead fishing on the Skeena River, is one of the best ways to spend your money. I am a guide and when I vacation, we hire local guides. Most guides have spent their entire life fishing and it turns it into a way of life. I for one, tell my guests from around the world I have my Masters and Bachelors in Salmon & Steelhead fishing. For example, do you often perform a procedure on your knee or back with out a doctor? or maybe a breast implant? Exactly! I am the fish doctor. Not only do you get my expertise, you get the use of thousands of dollars in equipment that only a doctor could afford, or a guide that has devoted his whole life to fishing & learning the great outdoors.
Ok That said are you ready to book your trip yet?
Its March 7 2014, the count down till the spring Steelhead season begins! One of my personal favorites at the moment. The ice is 3 feet thick on the Skeena right now, and all other tributaries are completely frozen over and the Oolican run has begun? This has been a wild weather winter to say the least, with wind from the North for nearly 3 months leaving a normally rainy slushy snowy climate dry and cold with very little snow until today.
Our first guests show up at the end of March, for some Steelhead fishing on the Kitimat river targetting fresh Chrome Steelhead! We will be fly fishing & float fishing the prime water from the new 18 ft Clackacraft! This is a Cadillac of all boats! Our guests say the ride alone down the river is worth the price of admission! The Steelhead are the bonus 😀

Skeena river is now frozen over with thick ice over most of the river the Kitimat river is nothing more than a trickle of water & The Nass river is low frozen and clear for a change. We have been ice fishing on some area lakes with the family catching brook trout up to 3 lb and rainbows as the winter steelhead lurk under the ice flow until the arctic wind subsides. There has been some great winter spring action out of Prince Rupert just out of Rush brook, Kinkolith has been very good on the changing tides as well not far from the old government ferry dock casting buzz bombs & sting zelda’s halibut action is also good. I am also looking forward to the first prawn feed. As for bookings this season things are going very well with a lot of positive energy being felt at the trade shows in the US this season, seems people are getting over the economy scare and just getting out and living.
We are looking forward to the 2014 season with our old guests as well as new ones.
If you haven’t booked your fishing vacation yet don’t delay dates are going quickly.

The main stem Skeena river fishing report Jan 20/2014 Steelhead winter run, most of the area rivers are back in shape after a hard rain fall & warm weather the rivers are coming back the winter run has been strong on the Kalum river as well as the lower copper and Lakelse river. The main stem Skeena can also fish very good at this time of the year we have been swinging flies there has also been good reports of float fishermen landing 7 to 8 steelhead per day from 14 to 20 pounds. If you would like info on our area please feel free to contact me at any time. We are now taking bookings for summer steelhead and salmon on the the Skeena, Kitimat rivers. On another note we had a great trip to Sacramento California meeting new customers and hooking up with our old friends. We had the opportunity to stop by the Drift boat shop in Oregon to fish the Clackamas river and pick up another new 18 ft Clackacraft this is by far the best drift boat money can buy. The service and product are second to none, even more exciting they have now built a true power paddle drift sled that we had the pleasure of running the very first one. Thats all for now Tight Lines Gill McKean www.westcoastfishing.ca Ph 1-250-638-0021
The fishing has been been very good on the Kalum river the rain and wet snow has stopped the water is dropping and clearing we should have prime conditions soon there is no guiding on the Kalum river until March 15. The Lakelse river has also started to produce some beautiful fish.
The Copper river is also producing some fish in the lower section the upper river is closed until Jan 15 see fishing regulations for info.

We are also excited to be leaving for Sacramento to attend the ISE outdoors fly fishing adventure show. Show dates Jan 9 to Jan 12.
Steelhead fishing report for Terrace BC Jan 3 /2014 winter run steelhead post / Area rivers are in prime shape the Kalum river is fishing well with good numbers of winter run steelhead showing up. We have been swinging large intruder style flies mostly in pink but color is not always important as getting the fly to the fish at the right speed seems to be key. The main stem Skeena river down stream of the Lake else river has been productive as well and will continue to produce well into May. We have been getting more rain than normal bringing area rivers up and moving fish through the systems. For more info on area rivers please feel free to contact us any time at info@westcoastfishing.ca
Swinging flies for steelhead & salmon can be very complicated if you are just getting into spey casting or fly fishing.
